ABOUT US

The efforts of the UMO-OG have always been centered in helping the community at large and supporting those who need it most. In May 2019, the UMO-OG received United Way Ottawa’s 2019 Healthy People, Strong Communities award, for its outstanding work in raising funds to support the After-the-Storm campaign. The UMO-OG worked together to raise $36,320 to support the campaign after a devastating storm ripped through Ottawa last September.

This award, given to UMO-OG at the Community Builder of the Year Awards Gala, celebrates a person or group who works to improve the lives of vulnerable people such as those facing mental health challenges, people living in poverty, or isolated seniors.

Bridging the gap between the faith community and the social services sector.

UMO-OG member associations work with other organizations to support the Ottawa-Gatineau community.

• They work very closely with the Canadian Blood Services and hold several blood donor clinics throughout the year. They work diligently to raise awareness in the community for their civic duty and encourage them to donate blood.

• They work closely with the local food banks and soup kitchens, where they prepare and serve hot meals several times a year.

• They work hand-in-hand with the local police services and other law enforcement bodies to prevent gun violence and domestic partner and child abuse.

• They hold mental health awareness and support clinics in their respective facilities.

• They provide funeral services for the community members who typically do not carry any sort of death benefit insurance and provide grief counselling to the grieving members.

• They work within their specific areas to support the burgeoning need for our senior members and those elders living alone by offering outing, meal and grocery services at no cost.
